Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT)

The Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT), based in Guadalajara, Mexico, is the only association accredited and approved by the Mexican Federal government to verify the production, bottling and marketing of Tequila and to certify its authenticity.

Mrs. Meza, the CRT’s Representative for the United States and Canada, has been responsible for establishing an office, based in Washington, D.C. and developing contacts with the American and Canadian governments as well as the industry for the purpose of ensuring that only authentic Tequila is sold in these countries. Mrs. Meza joined the CRT in February 2001.

Before joining the CRT, Mrs. Meza served as Executive Assistant to the Deputy Director General of the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property, where she monitored the performance of four field divisions for the Deputy Director General.

Mrs. Meza holds a Master in Intellectual Property from the Franklin Pierce Law Center, in Concord, New Hampshire, USA as well as a Master in European Trademark and Industrial Design Law from the University of Strasbourg in France. Prior to that, she attended Law School at the University of Las Americas in Puebla, Mexico with an undergraduate in International Relations.

About the CRT

Consejo Regulado de Tequila (Tequila Regulatory Council). A non-profit organization, founded in 1994, that verifies the performance and the fulfillment of Mexican standards (normas) concerning Tequila. It also guarantees the tequila’s authenticity and quality and protects the Denomination Appellation of Origin (AOC) worldwide. Members of the Council include Mexican government, agave farmers, tequila producers, bottlers and distributors .
