BAMBU RUM
Bambu Imports LLC
Country of Origin: Antigua

Although his idea for Bambu wouldn’t come ’til later on, David Kanbar’s love affair with rum began straight out of college. Mixing refreshing cocktails with the “sweet island spirit,” transported him to white sand beaches and exotic tropical locales.

David became an executive at Skyy Vodka. It was here he developed a taste for super-premium spirits. He learned about distillation and filtration: methods used to purify spirits, making them more palatable with less residual hangover effects. His appreciation for creating high-quality liquor grew. After leaving Skyy, David decided to explore his first passion: rum.

Now a purveyor of purity, David strayed from “standard” white rums. He felt they were too heavy. They seemed to overpower cocktails, instead of delicately complementing them. So his goal became clear: Taking his experience with high-end vodka, he needed to create rum as pure as vodka. But as David would soon find out, producing the first super-premium white rum is no easy task.

He searched the world over for a distillery up for the challenge. While most could not or would not make Bambu to his strict specifications, he found one that could. It is on the little island of Antigua.

Production began. While creating the first samples it became clear that the same processes traditionally reserved for creating the finest vodkas and gins was actually stripping away his rum’s aroma and flavor. This discovery brought David to an important crossroads. The only way he was going to capture the delicately sweet nose and palate he was after, was to produce Bambu in extremely small batches. It would prove to be a very slow, labor-intensive process, one that actually limits Bambu’s production to approximately 1,000 cases every three days. This means, without major capital investment, Bambu will never grow larger than 85,000 cases annually.

First and foremost, Bambu is a labor of love. David Kanbar set out to produce the finest handcrafted white rum in the world. He did just that, and now has legions of loyal customers who demand nothing less. Bambu is simply the finest rum there is.

FAZENDA MAE DE OURO CACHAÇA

Country of Origin: Brazil

Fazenda Mae De Ouro Cachaca

Silver Medal Winner

Fazenda Mae de Ouro, when translated into English, literally means “The Mother of Gold Farm”. Named for their farm and for the beauty and the golden sunsets, this family tradition has tremendous respect for Mother Earth and their workers who produce this golden distillation. Their distillation in Brazil is called ‘Cachaca Alimbique” because they produce limited quantities in small batches using traditional copper pot stills for distillation.

"Most cachaças deserve their firewater reputation—not Mãe de Ouro Cachaça. Oak aged for a year and made in small batches.... it is easy and friendly on the palate, with a light sweetness, a generous mouth feel and a clean cane tingle. There’s a slightly woody finish, but not unpleasant or overwhelmingly filled with vanilla. A great step up for making premium Caipirinhas.", Jack Robertiello Recommends, Cheers Spirit Tasting

"It's exciting to find a cachaça that is actually sippable apart from making caipirinha cocktails. This is a bottle that can really shake up customers pre-conceived notions of this spirit category. Its sugar cane spirit base really shines through without tasting like something you'd fuel your truck with and without the price tag of rhum agricole. The fact that it has some whisky barrel aging, of course, captures my heart.", Review by LeNell Smothers, Owner, LeNell’s Ltd. NY

Rhum Clement Premiere Canne White Rum

F. Paul Pacult, Spirit Journal, June ’05, 4 Stars, Highly Recommended Rhum Clement Premiere Canne White Rum, June ’05, “Crystal clear and very clean. In the first whiffs I detect grassy/beany notes of sugar cane, cola nut, vanilla bean, and fresh, flowery spirit just off the pot still; after another six minutes in the copita, the aroma narrows its focus on the grassiness; a one-dimensional bouquet, but compelling in its purity just the same. The palate entry is sensational, in that, the narrow aroma becomes a broad, expansive, and generous early taste that includes healthy doses of cocoa bean, bittersweet chocolate, black tea, and unrefined sugar; the midpalate acts as a reinforcement of the palate entry, adding a more pronounced element of fresh, raw spirit. Concludes gracefully in the throat, with subtle notes of sugary sweetness, zesty spirit, and vanilla. What white rums should be. Liked this incarnation more than their Clement Blanc from the early ‘90’s; Silver Medal San Francisco World Spirits Competition, 05

Rhum Clement Creole Shrubb

F. Paul Pacult, Spirit Journal, June ’05, 3 Stars, Recommended “ Yellow/gold in color; impeccably pure. The first nosing is greeted by a delectably acidic and mildly sweet scent of orange peel (this is a smooth tasting concoction made from a maceration of rum, sugar cane syrup and orange peel); further time in the glass reveals a deft touch of raw cocoa that rounds out the bouquet nicely. The palate entry is sweet, thick, and suitably orangey; at midpalate, the orange peel zestiness kicks it up a notch in intensity, thereby countering the sugary sweetness. Ends up sweet, a bit intense, and appropriately orangey.

Rhum Clement VSOP

F. Paul Pacult, Spirit Journal, June ’05, 4 Stars, Highly Recommended “ The amber/autumn leaf gold/honey color is very pretty and pure and very immature brandy-like. The first sniffings pick up muted aromas of brown sugar and milk chocolate; aeration time of another six minutes does little in the way of stirring further aromatic development, except for traces of peanut and black pepper. The elegant yet assertive palate entry is firm, peppery, moderately sweet, and cane-like; at midpalate, the flavor profile turns silky in texture, semisweet and cocoa-like to the taste, and eminently elegant and sophisticated in style. Finishes sweet, honeyed, medium-bodied, svelte, and utterly yummy.

COCKSPUR
Goddard Enterprises
Country of Origin: Barbados

Cockspur Fine Rum

An extremely pleasant experience for what could be considered a standard rum. Dark sugar and alcohol overtones are very predominant, very slight lemon undertones. A wonderful drink! It’s colour is very light grapefruit /star fruit yellow. The nose is sherried alcohol with a warm sensation. First trip to the nose implies a mellowy sweet and honey waft until just after halfway into the experience and then the demerara sugar kicks in to complete the second leg. Not complex but very pleasant. Its taste and texture starts extremely smooth, becoming spicy on the palette. Light bite on the back of the throat and upper front gums. Peppery crescendo although very round and warm giving way to Caribbean cinnamon spice. Great mouth feel getting slightly buttery towards the end. "Silver Medal, Highly Recommended, 89 points", Beverage Testing Institute; Gold Medalist, San Francisco World Spirits Competition

Cockspur 12 YO VSOR

A beautiful sherry red & intense plumy colour. It’s nose is intense and alcohol filled explosion on the nose. Very measured woody and constant undertones throughout with shortbread making a brief visit. Orange peel and rock sugar. Rich, ripe plums and Caribbean Fruit cake flavours are apparent right from the very start. Strong brandy type influence is always present. The kind of flavour experience that your nose would ask for on its birthday!

Gold Medal Winner

The taste and texture is wonderfully smooth and deep rounded velvety taste with a clove or two making a brief but special appearance. Some dryness occurs at the back of the mouth with an intense but pleasant tingle all round the upper gums that spreads to the lips. Earth and woody tones are present along with a prolonged spice experience. "Velvet on the tongue" feeling that pans out into a dry aftertaste. Intensely pleasing throat burn and bite and a huge warming sensation as it goes all the way down to your socks

Confident, weighty and complete. A complete meal in a glass on a cold winter's night. This is what drinking rum is all about! Definitely one for the connoisseur. A fabulous rum...

"Gold Medal, Exceptiona. 93 points", Beverage Testing Institute; Silver Medalist, San Francisco World Spirits Competition

J.M. Rhums
Country of Origin:  Martinique

Celebrated single estate cask-strength Rhum JM debuts in the U.S. this Fall.

This September, Clément USA Inc. will introduce the celebrated Rhum JM from Martinique to key markets around the country. Benjamin Jones, head of Clément USA explains, “The interest in Rhum Agricole is fast growing in the US, so we believe the time has come to introduce JM’s exceptional rhums to select audiences.” JM’s highly recognizable packaging – a squat bottle with a label displaying a wood-cut of the distillery – reflects the rare characteristics of these Rhums.

A single estate rhum from a unique terroir

Regarded as the “Rolls” of Rhum Agricole, JM is made exclusively from selected sugar cane grown on JM’s Bellevue estate. Located at the foot of the Mt. Pelée volcano in Martinique and surrounded by tropical forrest, JM enjoys a unique terroir.

Meticulously crafted and cask-strength bottled

All JM Rhums are meticulously crafted from the fresh juice of the carefully pressed sugar canes. After fermentation and distillation of the vesou – the fresh juice of the sugar canes – the rhums are aged before bottling. During their aging, the level of alcohol progressively drops. Because JM never adds water to reduce the alcohol content of its rhums, the younger white and oak-aged rhums will be shipped at 50% ABV while older blended and vintage-dated rhum will ship at 45-50%.

Rhum JM Blanc

The Rhum JM Blanc combines the intense power of the best sugarcane on the island of Martinique . Aromas of white pepper and lilies give way to pineapples, raspberry and warm biscuits on the palate. The finish is long and dry. Perfect for delicious fruit cocktails, a mojito or a simple Ti’ Punch

Rhum JM Gold

Aged in small oak barrels for a minimum of 12 months, JM Gold displays a rich golden color. Its flavors are dominated by fresh cane with notes of spices and fruit. On the palate its aromas of dried fruit coat the palate. Long finish. Enjoy in a side-car!

 Rhum JM Special Reserve

JM Special Reserve is a blend of 4- and 5-year old rhums selected and blended together to create a fine sipping aged rhum. Aromas combine cane flavors, spices and dried fruits.

“This rhum has the spicy characteristic style of JM…It combines the smooth taste of alcohol with delicate woody notes.” Martine NOUET

Rhum JM Vintage

This gorgeous 10-year old rhum – vintage1997 has just replaced 1996 – has elegant copper tones. Its generous bouquet of toasted nut, lemon and sage is followed by flavors of fruit cake, mango and passion fruit with hints of white pepper, cinnamon and nutmeg. The explosion of aromas on the palate is matchless.

Rhum JM Rare Vintage “Leather label/Green top”

Always 15 years old, Rhum JM Rare Vintage currently showcases the 1992 vintage. With an intense copper color and mahogany reflections, its visual appearance is as pleasing as its remarkable flavors and gastronomic qualities.

Rhum JM 1992 offers an opulent bouquet of dried orange peel, banana, and nutty aromas followed by a smooth expression of ripe papaya and mango on the palate. The finish explodes with an extraordinaire range of spices and tobacco nuances perfectly .
