Tasting Notes
TEQUILA BLANCO, WHITE, PLATA
- Chaya Silver
- www.chayatequila.com
- Bold and edgy with a captivating, smooth flavor. Each bottle evokes the care and the artistry of the harvest, fermentation and distilling process.
- "Though we used to see a lot of labels come out of this factory a few years ago, Chaya is the first "New" brand I've seen produced at Industrializadora de Agave San Isidro in a long time. After purchasing this tequila (and the Chaya Añejo) at HiTime we decided to compare Chaya Silver with another tequila blanco produced at the same factory. We did a "blind" tasting (the only way to go if you want an honest assessment) expecting there may not be much of a difference at all. The two blancos did have some similarities but one stood out with more fruit and less alcohol to the nose, attack and finish. This same blanco also had a little more body and was very smooth with good agave flavor.
- Not to say that the other brand was a bad tequila but we agreed that this one was superior. It turned out to be the Chaya Silver. I did this because I didn't want to be influenced by the distinctive and unusual bottle, which by the way is not only very attractive but also ergonomically functional. It fits good in the hand and the slanted neck seems to make pouring easier. That may not sound like a big deal but often too much thought is put into the appearance of a fancy bottle without considering it's functionality. Cudos to Chaya on the great bottle design and the nice blanco inside". (PocoTequila.com)
- Chinaco Blanco
- www.chinacotequila.com
- Made in the Northern state of Tamaulipas (not Jalisco as are most tequilas), this is a muymacho blanco, with a complex aroma of white pepper, citrus, chamomile and smoke layered with hints of caramel and loads of earthy agave. The mouth feel is medium and dry. The flavors follow the aroma. Spice, fruit, floral and caramel add support to deep earthy agave flavors. The hot finish is medium to long, with little bitterness and moderate sweetness. The finishing flavor is pure agave with hints of smoke and cream soda. Rated 88 by the BTI; (Tied at 4 th on itequila.org, of all blancos rated, 2002); Taste and aroma of a light pisco. Citrus, chamomile and smoky agave on the nose. Dry. Spice, caramel, café-au-lait and earthy agave on the palate with a little bitterness on the long finish-Source: Luxuryweb.com
- Corazon Blanco
- www.tequilacorazon.com
- "Destiladora San Nicolas is a distillery located in the highlands region of Arandas, Jalisco. This very nice blanco is clean and smooth. I can confidently recommend Corazón Banco but it retails for around $40.00. Frank Arcella of Arcella Premium Brands, who at one time imported the Corazón tequilas, was proud of the rating given to this blanco by the Beverage Testing Institute in the year 2000. Both the reposado and blanco were rated the highest in their respective categories by BTI. The Beverage Testing Institute ratings can be seen at: www.tastings.com
- Produced in an ultramodern distillery set in a famous tequila growing area near Arandas, this blanco was ranked first in tastings by the Beverage Tasting Institute of Chicago with a score of 93. The BTI review reads: “Clear. Lush spicy agave nose. Medium-full body. Substantial mouthfeel. Rich, smooth agave palate with delicate pineapple fruit notes and a surprising peppery snap at the finish.Rated 93 by the BTI
- Don Eduardo Silver
- www.doneduardo.com
- Don Eduardo Silver Tequila earned a Gold Medal and 90 points, “Exceptional” rating from the Beverage Testing Institute. It was awarded the Silver Medal and ‘Best in Class’ by the 2005 International Wine & Spirits Competition and has received such noted accolades since 2001.
- Don Eduardo Silver is distilled from 100% blue agave; this superb tequila is uniquely ‘triple distilled’ for incredible smoothness. It was the Orendain family who mastered this triple distillation technique at their La Mexicana Distillery in the village of Tequila . This innovative practice has since been adapted by competitors but you will find that the Don Eduardo Silver has a flavor profile all its own. With aromas of minerals, slate, bread dough, its taste is viscous, neutral but smooth and finishes with a touch of heat. F. Paul Pacult of Wine Enthusiast magazine notes “The nose is fresh, vegetal and pine-like; aeration allows the pine/cedar scent to dominate the latter nosing phase. The palate entry is sweet and sap-like, almost honeyed; at midpalate, the flavor profile turns bittersweet and bean-like. Ends well with taste flashes of cocoa bean and linseed oil. A solidly made silver that’s fresh and intensely agave-like” (Rated ‘Very Good’ and ‘Recommended’)
- DON JULIO
- www.diageo.com
- Clear. Robust green pepper, vanilla bean, and sweet agave aromas. A delicate entry leads to a very plush medium-to full-bodied palate with smoked peppers, peppery spice, green olive, and grilled pineapple husk flavors. Finishes with a nicely balanced peppery agave and herb fade. Classy, clean, and elegant with a great balance of refined flavors (Source, Beverage Testing Institute)

TEQUILA ANEJOS AGED 1+ YR
- Chaya
- www.chayatequila.com
- Chaya anejo is the pinnacle of art in a bottle. Aged for 2 years in large oak barrels, this amber-colored tequila is crafted for discriminating palates. Within its smooth entry and earthy finish, hints of oak and spice undertones blend flawlessly. Chaya anejo is extremely refined and deserves to be enjoyed slowly and savored.
- "Chaya is the brainchild of Mr. Albert Berentsen who was formerly the President of Kahlua, S.A. and the ex-owner of Kamora coffee liqueur. Obviously Mr. Berentsen is no stranger to the Mexico Spirits industry but this is his first venture into the tequila business. Interco Brands offered the following statement: "In creating CHAYA TEQUILA, Mr. Berentsen's primary focus was on two key objectives, namely, first and foremost, in securing the finest and best tasting 100% Blue Agave tequila he could find, and second, to create the most extraordinary and elegant bottle he could conceive".
- I like them both, the bottle design and the tequila. This Añejo is quite light in color with subtle floral notes to the nose and palate. It shows good body that attests to its quality, is lightly sweet and extremely smooth. Some muy añejo drinkers may not prefer this tequila because it's not woody at all. This añejo is lighter in wood than many reposados and I love my tequila this way. Interco Brands tells me that a Chaya Reposado is forthcoming and I'll look forward to trying it because this añejo and Chaya Silver are both solid contenders in their respective categories" (PocoTequila)

Sidney Frank created and developed "Grey Goose" Vodka so this is a pretty significant move. As a result you may have noticed Corazon becoming much more visible in the marketplace. - 4 Copas
- Añejo is, unequivocally, the king of tequila. It rests in white oak barrels for a minimum of one year and sometimes to five years. During this time, the Añejo is impregnated with the oak's properties, which leaves its color dark amber and confers a medium wooden flavor, thereby becoming a proud competitor in valued spirits, like fine cognac, in international markets.
- If you prefer aged spirits, then you would deeply appreciate the expertise and dedication required to make exceptional tequila such as Añejo.

Rated 1 of the Top 100 Spirits in the World by Spirit Journal; Won Silver Medal at the World Spirits Competition 2004 “Though it was a great line up, this was the star of the show. - Sauza Tres Generaciones Anejo
- www.sauzatequila.com
- This Anejo tequila is considered the crowning achievement of the Sauza family distillery. Its delicate natural amber hue comes from more than three years aging in once-used Bourbon barrels. The richness of the 100% estate-grown blue agave is imparted with the subtle flavors of the hand-charred oak over its long resting period, giving it a smoky smooth finish, like no other. With a pale antique gold color, its aroma carries caramel-vanilla sweetness with white pepper spice and subtle oak tones. Its body is round, smooth and tingling, with a taste that is full and balanced. It starts with a brown sugar sweetness and fades to soft oak and clean agave. It finishes very clean, with a lingering warmth with white pepper and oak dryness.
- TEZON
- www.pernod-ricard.com
- Tezon Tequila Anejo is stunningly packaged in hand blown glass bottles and has an authentic stone stopper. It is made from 100% Blue Agave harvested from the highlands of Jalisco. The agave has to be 7-8 years old before it can be harvested and is then cooked for three days to turn the starch into sugar. It is then pressed in a device called a Tezontle, which is made from an indigenous volcanic mineral. This is the implement that Tezon takes its name from. Tezon Anejo is aged for 18-20 months in oak casks after the distillation process and takes on a golden amber color. It has rich caramel and butterscotch with a touch of orange peel on the nose. On the palate butterscotch and orange peel come through followed by hints of sea salt and mellow oak. Source: DrinkOn.com, UK
