Sofia Partida

Sophia Partida

Partida Tequila

Sofia Partida’s story begins with her parents and the decision her father, Norberto Partida, made in the 1930’s to show his support for the Cesar Chavez labor movement blossoming in the farmlands of California. Leaving his hometown of Amatit án, Mexico, Norberto and his immediate family set forth to establish campos in Woodland and Yuba City, California. The campos movement consisted of organized farming camps that provided legal protections and educational services to Mexican immigrant farm workers.

Norberto’s efforts provided a safe haven for hundreds of Mexican families and assisted them with entry into the United States. While Norberto managed the administration of the farms and labor aspects of the campos, Sofia’s mother, Elisa provided the trappings of the Mexican homeland, including daily home-cooked meals for hundreds of men, women and children.

Sofia, the 11 th of 11 children, was born into this nurturing atmosphere, and remembers her childhood as “a Mexican experience.” She goes on to note, “It was a wonderful, family environment. My siblings and I were raised with a full understanding and affinity for our Mexican heritage and culture. I didn’t even realize I wasn’t actually in Mexico, until it came time for me to go to school.”

Eight years ago, Norberto passed away prompting Sofia to rediscover her heritage and to reclaim her history as a Partida. She journeyed back to Amatit án to discover her father’s past and, in the process, reconnect with her Mexican roots. Sofia discovered that, like her

father before her, “Tequila runs in my veins.” Under the tutelage of Norberto’s brother, Enrique, Sofia began filling in the missing part of her family history.

Uncle Enrique tutored Sofia in the planting and nurturing of the blue agave plants from which the premium Partida Tequilas are created. He acquainted her with the Partida family’s special time-tested distillation processes.

During Sofia’s immersion in the Tequila culture, she realized she had found both a personal and professional calling. With the Partida family’s enthusiastic endorsement and support, Sofia decided to bring Partida Tequila to the United States.

Sofia’s goal is to do more than simply introduce America to Partida Tequila. She strives to honor the proud legacy of the Partidas by introducing new friends to the “real” Mexico; a place of honest pride, rich culture, and precious traditions. A true Tequila Legacy.
